About School-Based Therapy with Child Life Therapy
School-based child life therapy means we come to your child's school during school hours to provide support in a space familiar and accessible to them. Sessions may take place in a quiet room, learning support area, or other designated space with permission from the school.
We work specifically with children who are neurodivergent, including those with:
⢠Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
⢠Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
⢠Sensory processing differences
⢠Emotional regulation difficulties
⢠Anxiety, school avoidance, or trauma responses
⢠Identity, confidence, or social skills challenges
We do not provide therapy for primary cognitive or learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dyscalculia. If you're unsure whether we're the right fit, feel free to contact us.
No diagnosis or NDIS plan is required to work with us. We welcome families at any stage of their journey ā including those still seeking answers or exploring support options.
You can self-fund therapy or use NDIS funding if your child is eligible.
It depends on what works best for your child and school. We offer a flexible mix of in-class support and quiet room sessions.
Some children benefit from being supported in the classroom while working on a current task (e.g., to build focus, manage overwhelm, or practice regulation strategies in real time). Others may need a quiet space away from the group to feel safe and engage in therapeutic play.
We are always mindful that children miss valuable learning time when they are out of class ā so we work closely with schools and families to plan session times thoughtfully and support learning, not disrupt it.
Each session is personalised to your child's goals and needs. It may include:
⢠Play-based therapy
⢠Emotion coaching
⢠Visual supports and social stories
⢠Role-play or storytelling
⢠Sensory regulation activities
⢠Strength-based reflection and identity work
Sessions are designed to be low-pressure, affirming, and therapeutic, not academic or clinical.
Yes ā with your permission, we may collaborate with your child's educators to ensure strategies used in therapy are also supported in the classroom. We aim to build consistent, respectful support systems across home, school, and therapy.
Most children are seen weekly or fortnightly, depending on need and availability. We coordinate with you and the school to find a suitable day and time.

We are a neurodiversity-affirming, child-led, and relationship-focused practice. We meet children where they are, celebrate who they are, and work alongside families and schools to support real growth in everyday environments.
